Facts:
SoFi Stadium is the newest crown jewel of the stadium and architecture world. The stadium is owned by Stan Kroenke, owner of the Los Angeles Rams, and shared with the Los Angeles Chargers. It boasts one of the most impressive video scoreboards of any stadium, spanning a total of 70,000 square feet of 4k HDR on a double-sided screen – so every seat in the building has a perfect view. The designers of Sofi also really wanted to capitalize on the California sunshine while keeping guests comfortable, leading to the installation of a state-of-the-art roof. The roof is made of a material called ETFE, which is a fluorine-based plastic that is 1% the weight of actual glass, and also capable of projecting images using the 27,000 LED pucks that were installed on its surface. The concourses of the stadium are open to the elements as well, with wide walkways and areas for the California breeze to flow freely throughout the building. Not only is the inside impressive, but the outside of the stadium features an artificial lake and something the architects call a “seismic moat”. This ‘moat’ is up to 12 feet wide, 100 feet deep, and designed to help keep the building safe during earthquakes. The stadium also sits 100 feet below ground level to accommodate the height restrictions for nearby LAX Airport. SoFi Stadium is truly a building that spared no expenses and will continue to push the envelope for future stadium designs.
