Industry Outlook With...
- Name: Jeremy Frye
- Title: Account Coordinator
- Bio: What’s your industry background? How did you get to this role? Why did you want to get into the ticket industry?
I’ve always been interested in music and started out working in record stores. From there, I worked in the distribution side of a record label. Around the time I was trying to figure out how to make a career out of this, the record industry largely collapsed. In thinking about where I could go next, I looked to the ticketing industry, because I love live events, and knew they weren’t going anywhere (I wasn’t thinking of COVID at the time!). I worked in customer service for a ticketing company for six years, where I learned so much about how the ticketing and live event industry work. For three years after that, I worked as a manager of the ticket office of The Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
- What do you do for your clients?
I help facilitate the management and distribution of corporate sponsorship tickets, as well as providing client support for any of their needs regarding their ticket orders.
- What attracted you to Cendyn Ovations?
It was an opportunity to learn about a side of ticketing that I did not know much about, and I was attracted to the small office atmosphere and better hours than working for a venue.
- What is the most surprising thing about working in corporate ticketing?
I’d say watching the quick evolution from physical tickets to digital tickets, which has happened with most organizations in the past two years.
- What is something you learned about the industry, business, or role in your time at Cendyn Ovations?
Through this job, I learn about sports through the tickets we handle and the changing seasons, as well as listening to my co-workers, who are all big sports fan. I don’t follow sports in my own life, so it’s nice to learn about something I wouldn’t normally know.
- Favorite Cendyn Ovations moment: I feel like I am living through it right now. One of my co-workers recently had his first baby, and two others will soon. It just feels like an exciting time where these new families are forming.
- What is your outlook on live events? We have seen in the last year and a half how much people love live events, and how much they have missed them. In the last couple of months, we’ve seen live concerts start to return, and there has been a tremendous amount of excitement and interest. Shows that may not have sold out pre-COVID are selling out now far in advance. I think we live in an altered world now, and we must adjust to different safety precautions. People seem willing to do whatever it takes to be able to see live music again. Live events took at hit in 2020, but we are seeing that the demand has not waned.
- Most memorable concert or sporting event?
I got to see Prince’s final performance at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta on April 14, 2016. While the show felt special at the time, it felt even more so afterward, because Prince tragically passed away a week later.
- Parting words of wisdom:
Never stop learning.
Keep up with your interests.
Admit when you’re wrong.
Don’t be afraid of change.
