Before heading out to a game or concert, we all tend to run through the same mental checklist of essential items to take with us: keys, wallet, phone, and the all-important ticket. Today our phones are capable of so much more than just communicating with loved ones. They eliminate boredom, capture memories, keep us up to date, and now they can provide us with access to our favorite live events. Here are 5 reasons why mobile ticketing is the wave of the future.
1. Convenience
Having a mobile ticket immediately eliminates having to remember to bring your physical ticket because most of us never leave our homes without our smart phones. Even if your smart phone is left behind, someone at the box office or even a friend can pull up your ticket with your information. Once you’ve arrived at the venue, the lines move much faster and much more efficiently because the ticket scanners are all scanning uniform tickets and there is less fumbling around for a paper ticket.
2. Cost
Mobile ticketing is cost effective for both the venue and secondary market sellers. Tickets are no longer having to be printed on expensive paper just to be thrown in the trash later. For resellers, mobile ticketing saves on shipping costs and gets the tickets to buyers instantly.
3. Transferability
Now when you buy a ticket from a venue or on the secondary market, the tickets are in your inbox right after you make the purchase. Say you purchase multiple tickets for a group of friends or colleagues, you can now instantly transfer your tickets to their inboxes whenever you’d like by simply inputting their email address or sending them a screenshot via text.
4. Safety
Mobile tickets make it easy to track the history of your tickets when buying/selling. When buying from a reseller you don’t have to provide your personal address or meet them at a neutral location. Everything is done by simply using your email address. Mobile tickets also provide the venue with a little more information on who is attending their events, which can be useful if something were to happen. Teams and venues can even further prevent fraud by generating new barcodes for your tickets when needed.
5. Usability
Many people are a little apprehensive about the process of mobile ticketing, but if you are familiar with most smart phone apps, you’ll find the process is very easy to navigate. The user interfaces for most venues’ ticket managers are all very similar. All you need to do is log in, select your event, and select to view or transfer your ticket. Then staff working the gates scan the tickets right from your phone.
Like most new things, mobile ticketing may take some getting used to for some people. There will always be those who prefer the old-fashioned ticket stub to take home as a keepsake, but the cost, convenience, and ease of use may help reduce the pain for those collectors. Mobile ticketing is still in its early stages, but over time it will be refined and improved to become the standard for live events across the globe.
