Travel chat with John Seaton, International Managing Director
Cendyn’s International Managing Director, John Seaton, gives an inside look into the life of a business traveler. After over 20 years of traveling, he has stories from his worst experience to giving tips on how to travel better.
How long have you been traveling? For business, I have been traveling since 1995. I have visited many countries and cities, but have seen very little of them! I have a silly rule: try to never sightsee on a business trip because when I visit that place with my family, I want to experience the tourist sites for the first time with them.
How do you avoid getting sick? I am lucky—I don’t get travel sick.
What is the best way to change currency? Never at the airport. They rip you off.
Aisle or window? Aisle.
How do you nap on a plane? Melatonin and red wine. Works every time.
What’s your favorite airline and hotel? I travel British Airways a lot for convenience. I love a small hotel in the UK called The Pig on the Beach-Fantastic! I recommend it in the summer.
Best way to overcome jetlag? Melatonin
What is your favorite/worst thing about traveling? My worst is boredom. I am a nightmare to travel with, as I get bored easily. My favorite is traveling with my family on a plane. My kids are still young enough to get excited about being on a plane. They will learn!
What is your longest trip to date? This is not the longest trip, but on one business trip I did eight countries in just over a week while in Asia. It nearly killed me.
What do you learn from traveling with someone? You learn a lot about someone when you travel with them, but unfortunately that is not always a good thing.
Do you have a travel horror story? Sitting next to an old gentleman who insisted on talking to me throughout a long-haul flight, especially since I was trying to watch a movie.
Favorite destination and why? Barcelona. I love the weather, food and the fact it is on the coast.
